Warnervale Rugby Club (Established 2000)

The Warnervale Junior Rugby Club was founded in 2001, with the assistance of NSW & Central Coast Rugby Union and a number of local Rugby enthusiasts. 2004 see’s our Club entering the Senior’s competition, making our Club enter into the next stage of growth

Warnervale is one of the fastest growing residential areas in NSW, with an estimated 40,000 people relocating to the area in the next 5-10 years. With surrounding area’s well established and having 9 Primary/Catholic Schools, 4 High Schools and more new schools planned in the near future. It was an excellent opportunity to establish a new sporting club within the Wyong Shire. After meetings with the Wyong Council it was decided that the Club would be based at Warnervale Athletics Oval, Cnr Virginia & Warnervale Rd’s, Warnervale In 2001, our first year, after alot of hard work and commitment we were fortunate enough to register 52 players and field 3 teams (Under 11’s, 13’s & 14’s) which performed beyond everyone’s expectations in the local Central Coast Junior Rugby Competition.

2002 saw our playing numbers increase to 86 and fielding 5 teams, with 4 teams reaching the finals and our Under 13’s competing in the Grand Final. In 2003, with the introduction of Walla Rugby Under 8’s & Mini Rugby Under 10’s we have again increased our teams to 8 with playing numbers currently over 135, and saw 4 Teams making it through to the Semi Finals. We also have a number of players from the club reaching Representative honours at Central Coast level competing in Country Championships all over the State.

In recent years the profile of Rugby Union has increased and with last year Australia hosting the World Cup with 3 games played at Gosford and International teams being based on the Central Coast. The profile of Rugby has only lifted higher.

In 2004 we increased our numbers to 180 players and 11 teams. That year also saw the inception of our first Senior Grade -a 3rd grade side.We had a great response in numbers with new people being involved in Rugby for the first time. 5 Teams made it to the Semi Finals with our Under 17s winning the Minor Premiership and also taking our first premiership in a stunning victory over The Entrance in the Grand Final.

The year 2005 saw another increase in numbers with over 200 junior players and over 60 senior players. Again, 5 teams made it into the Finals and our 2nd Grade narrowly missing out by only 1 point. Our courageous Junior Colts (17/18s) again winning a premiership against Terrigal “And what a game it was!”

The outlook for Warnervale Rugby Union is looking good with the help of numerous volunteers we aim to field a team in every Junior age group and also compete in 3 grades of the Central Coast Senior competition. At present we stand as the 3rd largest Rugby Club on the Coast and soon to be the most successful!

Warnervale Rugby Union Club continues to strive to promote the game of Rugby to the youth of the Wyong Shire. With the assistance of numerous and dedicated group of volunteers we aim to field a team in every age group and also successfully compete and be competitive in the Central Coast Senior competition in all grades.
